October Surprise

The fall cleanup continues. The winds have been fierce these past couple of days, so much so that yesterday it toppled my very sturdy iron trellis. In my attempt to upright it, the scarf that was wrapped around my neck got tangled up in the thorny branches of my climbing rose. It took awhile to disengage myself and I am sure I was a hilarious sight for anyone passing by.

But check out what I came across: strawberries! Just a couple mind you, so nowhere near a harvest but their appearance is quite unexpected and I will appreciate them even more.

My strawberry plant is blooming and busy working on setting fruit too! Weird but wonderful!

Cute blog! I have to take notes because I cannot seem to grow a plant in a pot to save my life. I recently killed my boss' desk plant after ONE weekend at my house! Maybe you can give me some tips? (Like don't put a philodendron in full sun even if it just for 8 hours?)

Wicked Gardener: Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you like the blog. I'm not so hot at keeping houseplants alive so the philodendron might have met with the same fate if it was under my care. I've had much greater success with outdoor plants. Over the winter months, I'll be compiling a list of basic tips for container gardening success. My first one was in my October 14th post--it had to do with drainage and elevation. So keep checking back from time to time. Also, if you have specific questions, I'll always do my best to answer them.--Miriam
