Not Quite Ready for Primetime

"Mini-Famous Vampire"
You know it's a big trend when the gardening world has to get in on it.  This is "Mini-Famous Vampire" Calibrachoa.  It is a blood red bloom that can be relied upon to perform from May until October.  Mine is still blooming--and I hacked it way back a couple of months ago when it was getting a little out of hand.  It trails beautifully and isn't picky about soil--and it also seems to do especially well in hot weather.

So there it is--a vampire in my garden.  But a pretty one that's not at all scary.

I love that...
Have you found that these do better and stay fuller with part shade in your zone?

Actually, they get morning sun (until about 2pm) so since it's not harsh sun, they do quite well. But I know they can tolerate some shade. Maybe next year I'll experiment and leave one out in full sun and put another beneath one of my large shrubs and see which does better. Thanks for writing! --Miriam

I've found that, yes, in our zone(7) these do better in partial shade...especially if planted in the ground. In fact, I'm done trying to get these beauties to perform(for the long haul) in full sun. Your morning/early afternoon/potted scenario imo is perfect for these. I love love that red.
